Wiladat of Bibi Fatimah (a.s.)
Source: Mujtaba Issue 34 July/Aug 2004

When the Prophet (s.a.w.w.) lived in Makkah, the Kuffar would tease him because his sons died in childhood and he had no one to carry on his name.

At this time, Allah (S.W.T.) revealed Surah al-Kawthar, in which He promised the Prophet (s.a.w.w.) that he would be blessed with a large family.

That promise came in the form of Bibi Fatimah al-Zahra (a.s.) who was born on the 20th of Jamadi'ul Akhar. She was his only child who grew up and was a girl, which the Kuffar considered a burden rather than a blessing.

Today, the world is filled with the descendants of the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.w.) through Bibi Fatimah (a.s.), and sheds respected by all people!

Allah (S.W.T.) never breaks a promise that He makes!

When she born, her name was chosen by Allah (S.W.T.) to suit her high status.

Our 6th Imam, al-Sadiq (a.s.) has said: "Fatimah has nine names near Allah (S.W.T.), they are:
  • Fatimah,
  • Siddiqah (the Honest),
  • Al-Mubarakah (the Blessed One),
  • At-Tahirah (The Virtuous),
  • Az-Zakiyah (The Pure),
  • Ar-Radhia-tul Mardhiah (She who is pleases and who shall be pleased),
  • Al-Muhaddathah (a person other than a prophet, that angels speak to), and
  • Az-Zahra (the Splendid)."

When she was born, the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.w.) and Bibi Khadijah (a.s.) were extremely pleased.

The celebration of her birth was carried out by the angels in the heavens and the creatures on the earth!
