General Information
Which browser is best to use?
The Play & Learn Web pages are best viewed using Netscape 4.0 or above or Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or above. However, the Play & Learn site does take advantage of new technologies available in the more recent versions of the above browsers. We suggest you download the latest of either of these browsers at the Netscape site or the Microsoft site.
We have done everything we can to accomodate viewing with other browsers. You may find that some pages don't look quite "right". This is due to differences between browsers.
The Play & Learn site is however designed to work best with Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or above.
What's a plug-in?
Think of it as an option, sort of like the ones you get to choose from when you buy a new car. Your browser is the base model. It comes with standard equipment, just as your car comes with manual transmission, roll-down windows and AM-FM radio. But if you want to enjoy the Web equivalent of a state-of-the-art car audio system, you may need to add an option, a plug-in. It all depends on how much standard equipment your browser (and your computer) came with. The good news is you probably won't have to fork over any extra money for your plug-ins or for any similar programs called helper applications.

What are eBooks?
'eBook' is short for 'electronic book', a digital version of a print book that offers the convenience, access, and unique capabilities of the digital realm. eBooks offer the convenience of size and portability and you can store your own personal library of eBooks on your PC, Laptop or hand held device.
In order to read an eBook, you will require a small piece of free software known as an eBook Reader. eBooks come in different formats and each format has it's own Reader software. The format you select will depend upon your Operating System and whether you would like to read your eBooks on a hand held device or on your desktop. For advice on selecting the appropriate Reader, check the Reader Comparison Chart below.
